Simpler Times Remembered by the Sound of Wind Chimes

February 1st, 2012

There is something comforting about a porch with wind chimes hanging off its sides. It instantly makes you reminiscent about simpler times. The same era when our neighbors understood the value of community, when our children played safely on the streets and milk was delivered conveniently straight to our door. A simple sound can do that, awaken the senses and bring forth memories once thought to be forgotten forever.

For some people, a sound like that might do nothing for them, but for others it’s a moment to reflect on how fast life moves and its reciprocal nature. Even if you view life as a journey rather than a cycle you cannot deny the impact of past memories and their sudden emergence into your present.

When we are outside, we usually hear sounds of congestion, traffic and our never-ending busy lives! For all the sounds that now crowd our environment it is nice to instead here the gentle sounds of wind chimes dancing through the breeze.

It Works Just Like They Said It Would

December 5th, 2011

I was really a little intimidated by its power, being electric and all! Like other reviewers said, the very first time will take a while. Works extremely well for edging around my landscaping trailer. Only very minor issue is it is not balanced to stand upright by itself. The blade would still spin but I’d get build-up in the protective shield around it. Cleaning it out was a piece of cake. It doesn’t hold the guide as well as past products. You need to set it on the mid to deepest setting to not keep getting off line. Anyway, I’m very happy with the overall tool. The one part I find missing is the edge guide. Should’ve done it a long time ago! Makes my lawn stand out! I had no problems edging my lawn, the edger worked like a charm. I will be trying out the trencher portion this coming weekend, will give suggestions them. My spouse got this for me as a present recently. I usually borrowed one from my neighbor or my father every once in a while.

Why Hydroponics is the Way to Grow Your Plants

November 6th, 2011

If you are new to gardening, you might not have heard of hydroponics. Hydroponics is a revolutionary new way to grow plants. Instead of being planted in soil, plants are placed in a container and fed water and nutrients. Usually plants grow much bigger and healthier this way. Here are a few ways hydroponics is superior to traditional planting: 1-There is less maintenance. With the absence of soil, gardening becomes clean and efficient. Simply feed your plants the right water solution, packed with nutrients, and watch your plants grow. Even people who think they can’t grow plants can grow plants with hydroponics. 2-There are no insects or bugs. You won’t be overrun by insects trying to eat your plants because the nutrient-rich solution and water offer no place to hide and live. Hydroponic plants are easy to grow indoors. 3-There is less mess. Hydroponics make gardening clean and efficient. Unlike with traditional gardening, with hydroponics you will no long have pants with grass stains or dirty hands. If you need help getting started with this new kind of gardening, Lakewood hydroponics and other professional retailers can help you. Give it a try, you’ll enjoy it.

Improve Your Backyard with an Ornamental Fish Pond

September 26th, 2011

When spring returns many homeowners consider installing a fishpond in their back gardens. Ponds can add value to your home and also will provide you with a little oasis of relaxation from your busy day. A garden pond will help to attract wildlife into your back yard and will also keep those irritating insects away. If you plan to add a water feature like a waterfall or fountain then this will help oxygenate your pond. Trickling and rippling water is relaxing and will calm your senses as you watch or spend time near your pond.

You will need to buy a pond pump so that your pond water will be cleaned and recirculated back into the pond. Your pond will remain crystal clear and will continue to remain a thriving environment for your plants and fish. Pumps are inexpensive to use and also environmentally friendly. They just keep on cleaning and pumping back the same water into your pond, hour after hour, 365 days per year. Your pond will lose some water to evaporation once the weather gets warmer but apart from water changes, and cleaning the equipment regularly, a pond will run itself.

Choose a low voltage garden pond pump to save money but ensure that your chosen pump is very good quality and suits your pond size. This piece of equipment is vital to any pond, and must be in operation all year round. If it breaks down it must be replaced immediately.

Decorate your surrounding area with real rocks, stones or pebbles or buy fake ones. These look real and can even come with fake moss! You can buy an interlocking arrangement so the world is your oyster! They are very lightweight, and you can arrange them to make your own unique design that reflects your own personality.

Make sure you have an adequate budget to finish your project. Allow a contingency fund in case things are priced more expensively or if something goes wrong. This will mean you don’t have to give up on your pond halfway through.

Improve the Look of the Backyard

August 15th, 2011

The backyard can be as elegant and well decorated as the inside of your house if you only put a little effort to decorate it. There are hundreds of backyard ideas which you can impose on your backyard. In fact, the backyard may only need a few tweaks here and there such as proper arrangement of plants or the addition of outdoor furniture and you would have it looking inviting and appealing to every person’s eyes. A good way to predict how a yard will look before redesigning it is to use landscaping software.

The reason we make the backyard look good is not only because we like the idea of making it look good. Remember that the backyard is still as much your property as that of the insides of the walls of your house. Having a well maintained and decorated backyard makes your property all in all pleasant to live in. If one day you decide to sell your property, you can easily do so with a little pushover from your beautiful backyard.

Planting a Row of Lemon Trees in Our Yard

August 14th, 2011

My wife and I have decided they were going to start planting lemon trees in our backyard. We want to do a complete row all across the back fence. That should help to make it so that we have little bit more privacy and that our neighbors also have a bit more privacy, but also we can actually pick the lemons when they are ripe and make lemonade out of them. I think lemons are really good fruit tree to plant because almost every one of the lemons will be useful unlike other fruits that sometimes will be spoiled if you don’t pick them soon enough. Sometimes you can even pick up a lemon off the ground and it will still be good to use. I can’t wait to see what it will look like when we get all finished with it. I think it’s going to look really nice. Perhaps when we get it all done, we could give the lemons to the kids so they can have a lemonade stand out front.
